Plenty of resources are available when we talk about building an ADU. But only a few get into the nuts and bolts on how to furnish an ADU. Furnishing an ADU is all about maximizing space and comfort. Let’s find out some ideas on how to furnish your ADU the proper way.

1. Maximize Space with Multipurpose Furniture

You can choose furniture pieces that serve more than a single purpose.  A small studio apartment or a four-bedroom home can benefit from the added flexibility of multipurpose furniture. When you complete furnishing properly, you will live with all the comforts and amenities normally reserved for much larger homes. You have the potential to live with additional spaces like an extra guest bedroom, a home office, space for a home gym, or even a large dining room table for holiday hosting.

2. Open a Room with Storage Mirrors

Properly used mirrors can help small spaces look much larger. Mirrors do more than reflect. They are an age-old design trick. Mirrors create the illusion of more space while serving a useful purpose.

Adopting creative storage solutions is a very practical idea. Many ADU owners look for opportunities to configure built-in storage where floor space is at a premium. For example, under-stair storage drawers or storage lofts above a free-standing closet are good options. In addition, a space-saving option like modular, wall-mounted storage units serves your purpose. These clever cabinets can be oriented in any direction with hinges on either side for a vertical orientation. On the other hand, they can be arranged from top or bottom for a horizontal orientation.
